Annual Review 2013 highlights ILA support for a sustainable global lead industry
The ILA Annual Review 2013, which has just been published, shows in detail how the International Lead Association has served the lead industry in the last year in pursuit of its mission to promote and defend the responsible production, use and recycling of lead.
In his message ILA Chairman, Aaron Miller, V.P. & Chief Operating Officer of The Doe Run Company, said the lead industry was at a critical juncture and added: “We must take a more proactive approach in communicating effectively with various stakeholders including regulators, legislators and non-government organisations, to bring a better understanding about the value of lead, its role in modern society and its responsible use.”
As well as reviewing last year’s activities, the Annual Review reflects some of the key themes in ILA’s new Strategic Plan.
In his report ILA Managing Director, Dr Andy Bush, said that fundamental to the new strategy was the Association’s vision for a sustainable global lead industry that is recognised for the positive contribution it makes to society. ILA would also be putting a greater focus on promoting the positive aspects of the industry and its products, especially the benefits of lead batteries as an affordable, sustainable and technically competitive energy storage solution.
Dr Bush added: “Ensuring legislation which affects the lead industry is proportionate, science-based and supports the sustainable management of lead remains at the heart of our work today and for the foreseeable future.”
ILA is the global umbrella organisation for the lead industry and the Review also reports on the activities of the organisations that ILA supports either directly, or via the services it provides, namely the International Lead Zinc Research Organization, Advanced Lead Acid Battery Consortium and International Lead Management Center. European activities provided by ILA-Europe and the Lead REACH Consortium are also summarised.
