ILA member implements software to further reduce emissions
ILA member, the Affinerie de Pont Sainte Maxence (APSM) is using the Oxial software and liquid oxygen from Messer for the afterburning of total hydrocarbons and CO (Ctot) in rotary drum furnaces. This optimizes the production process. The heavy metal is extracted from lead-containing scrap such as old car batteries. The Oxial software monitors the oxygen dosage for the post-combustion in Oxipyr burners and controls the rotation speed of the rotary kiln accordingly. With this fine adjustment the overall efficiency is increased, fuel is saved and the emission of Ctot is reduced. APSM does not have to invest in post-combustion chambers.
The International Lead Association is working towards a vision of a sustainable global lead industry that is recognised for the positive contribution it makes to society. Our members are at the forefront of reducing their environmental footprint wherever possible.
With almost 70 years of history and facilities in three locations nationwide, the APSM and STCM group represents ECOBAT Technologies’s lead smelting activities across France. Jointly, the facilities in Pont Sainte-Maxence (North of Paris), Bazoches-les-Gallerandes (South of Paris) and Toulouse employ 130 staff and produce a total of 40,000 tonnes of lead and lead alloys annually. The Affinerie de Pont Sainte Maxence (APSM) is named after its location in the north of the country.
