Keynote Speaker Announced for European Lead Battery Conference in September
The theme of this year’s 14th European Lead Battery Conference (14ELBC), in Edinburgh, Scotland, on 9-12 September, is Towards Better Energy Storage Sustainability with Lead Batteries.
To set the scene the keynote presentation will be presented by Dr Julian Allwood, who is a Lead Author of the recently published 5th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), with a focus on mitigating industrial emissions.
Among its many observations the IPPC has highlighted the need for international co-operation in combating climate change, and the importance of radically increasing the proportion of energy generated from renewable sources. Greater reliance on renewable energy will inevitably bring with it a need for increased energy storage.
Dr Allwood will be making the keynote presentation entitled The Challenge of Global Climate Change Mitigation.
Following a career in industry Dr Allwood, who is a Reader in Engineering at the University of Cambridge (UK), made the move to academia. He now pursues a wide range of disciplines and is a noted expert in the fields of materials efficiency, environmental systems as they apply to the production and working of materials, industrial energy demand and emissions reduction.
As with previous ELBCs, organised by the International Lead Association, this year’s event provides an excellent opportunity for all those involved in the design, research and development, production and use of lead-acid batteries to keep up-to-date with the most recent technical and commercial developments.
