Leading human health expert retires from the International Lead Zinc Research Organization

Published by [email protected] 14th January, 2014

Dr Craig Boreiko, Scientific Programs Director at the International Lead Zinc Research Organization (ILZRO) has retired after 25 years of service as the global lead industry’s leading human health expert.

By [email protected]

Craig is the author of more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has provided input on lead health issues to many national and international agencies including the World Health Organisation, OECD and United Nations. Before joining ILZRO, Craig gained a PhD in Experimental Oncology and worked for 10 years at the Chemical Industry Institute of Toxicology

ILZRO, based in North Carolina, USA, is wholly funded by the International Lead Association (ILA) and provides the lead industry with high quality scientific support and research management expertise to ensure the highest levels of protection for human health and the environment.

Craig will continue to support ILZRO’s activities in a consulting role, however Dr Jessica Ryman, ILZRO Manager of Human Health Research, will over time assume full responsibility for ILZRO’s human health program, while Dr Jasim Chowdhury, ILZRO Environment Manager, will continue to be the point of contact on environmental issues.

ILA Managing Director, Dr Andy Bush, said: “I would like to take the opportunity to thank Craig on behalf of the ILA membership, and indeed the wider lead industry, for his tremendous contribution to advancing our understanding of the science that underpins the management of lead risks, and crucially its appropriate use in the regulatory context.”
