The lead industry gives back

Published on 23rd November, 2019

The 18th Asian Battery Conference (18ABC) travelled to Bali this year for the third time in event history. This year’s event was special however, featuring a new initiative which saw delegates donate over $45,000 to a charity helping some of Bali’s impoverished children attend school.

By Mary Logan

Bali is known for its pristine beaches and spiritual temples, a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. But like any other place, this hides the reality that many children and their families cannot afford the essentials for school, such as uniforms, shoes and backpacks.

Delegates attending 18ABC were asked to get involved during the conference in a ‘ONE Minute Giveback’. The ask? To assist three great charities working in Bali to tackle poverty and support children through education: Bali Children’s Project, East Bali Poverty Project and Solemen. In the event, supported by long-standing lead battery industry supplier Sorfin Yoshimura, pre-event and onsite donations, including one from BB Battery in China, totalled more than $45,000.

Bali’s children went to school equipped with new backpacks, uniforms and shoes

During the three-day conference, this money worked towards donating and packing 100 essential school backpacks, including key items such as stationery, books, uniforms and shoes. The initiative also donated 120 food parcels, 370 hygiene kits and 60 infant care packs for disadvantaged families on Bali.

Thanks to the help of delegates and companies attending 18ABC, the lead and lead battery industry has had a positive and lasting impact on some of Bali’s most in need.
