Research

We support scientific research on the potential health and environmental effects associated with safely producing and using lead metal and lead compounds by:

Supporting scientific research on the safe use of lead metal and compounds.

Funding independent research studies and surveys relevant to the human and environmental health effects of lead exposure

Evaluating new research published in the scientific literature as a basis for providing risk management advice to members, downstream industries and policy makers

Engaging in scientific and technical calls for information, supporting new policy decisions related to lead and compounds and performing risk assessments for regulatory purposes

Conducting innovative research into next-generation lead batteries

Providing workplace guidance regarding occupational exposure monitoring and health assessments

Keeping members informed of new scientific developments to ensure they continue to adopt risk management measures that protect human health and the environment

ILA is committed to supporting scientifically-sound research to facilitate cutting-edge lead battery development and a better understanding of the human health and environmental risks of lead exposure.

Battery research

The next generation of lead batteries will help accelerate the move to greener technologies for electricity generation, energy storage and the automotive sector.

Environmental science

Much of the new understanding on lead in the environment of lead has been developed by independent academic institutions that have undertaken research sponsored by ILA.

Health science

ILA’s health scientists ensure we have an up-to-date understanding of the latest academic research to engage authoritively in policy debates.
