Commission should postpone decision on lead metal environmental classification
ILA has criticised the EU chemicals agency ECHA over inconsistencies in the way the Risk Assessment Committee (RAC) has assessed lead compared to other metals for environmental classification under the CLP Regulation.
In a position paper, ILA calls on the European Commission to postpone any decision on including lead metal in massive form in CLP Annex VI until two ongoing metal cases have completed their assessment by RAC. This is necessary to maintain “the principle of non-discrimination” and ensure that reproducible and consistent methodology is used by RAC to derive opinions for environmental classification of metals.
