To serve the needs of our membership by promoting and defending the responsible production use and recycling of lead to create and sustain conditions in which businesses can compete and prosper.
About us
The International Lead Association
ILA is the only global trade association dedicated exclusively to representing lead producers and supporting a sustainable future for lead.
Many of our members are companies recycling lead from end of life products, contributing to a circular economy by creating economic value from waste.
ILA members also produce lead from mining, smelting and refining of lead ores and concentrates. Associate members include companies with a direct interest in lead and its many important uses.
ILA’s status as a not-for-profit trade association provides its members with a credible, advocate to address challenges faced by the whole industry.
The team is made up of technical, regulatory, environment and health experts, together with communication and public affairs specialists. We work with members and other stakeholders to promote the many benefits of lead, and champion safe and responsible manufacturing and use. And on behalf of our members we advocate for proportionate regulation.
We also support the global lead battery research hub, the Consortium for Battery Innovation, the only pre-competitive research group pioneering new research and development on the next generation of advanced lead batteries.
With offices in Europe and North America, we actively collaborate with associations and other stakeholders involved in battery manufacturing and other industry sectors where the use of lead is critical.
Batteries
Our team of battery experts work alongside ILA through the Consortium for Battery Innovation, a global pre-competitive lead battery research group supported by ILA and led by Dr Alistair Davidson.

Scientific
Our team of senior environmental and health scientists conduct and commission in-depth studies on lead and its impact to ensure policy-makers have relevant, recent data on which they are able to base regulatory decisions. The team also advise member companies on scientific issues relevant to lead production and handling.

The regulatory team provide a comprehensive service ensuring member companies are fully briefed on regulatory matters affecting lead and its uses. Led by Dr Steve Binks, the service includes advice and information on current and anticipated regulatory matters.

Lead is an essential ingredient in many important products that support everyday life. The communications and advocacy team led by Hywel Jarman work to co-ordinate communications and support advocacy linked to lead batteries and many other uses of lead. The team work closely with partner associations in the US, Europe and worldwide.
