International Lead Association appoints new chair

The International Lead Association has appointed a new chair, succeeding Florian von Steinkeller, who held the position for more than ten years.

Rob Wilson, Director, Metal Sales and Marketing at Teck Resources Limited (Teck), has been elected by ILA’s board to the role.

Mr Wilson, who has been with Teck for more than 30 years, has held several commercial strategy roles across the company’s business units. He was most recently appointed Director, Metal Sales and Marketing as well as chair of Teck’s Materials Stewardship Program.

A Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) graduate of McMaster University in Ontario, he also holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Mr. Wilson said: “It’s a great honour to be elected as ILA’s next chair. The lead mining and recycling industry worldwide plays a critical role underpinning economies and delivering resources that support many vital applications and services. Thanks to the great work of my predecessor and colleagues on the board, ILA is the only global association representing the interests of the industry and I look forward to taking that work forward to ensure we help create the best conditions for the lead industry to thrive and contribute to a sustainable future.”

Dr Andy Bush Executive Director of ILA said: “We’re delighted that Rob has taken on this important role. He brings a wealth of industry experience and a global perspective to the organisation. And we are extremely grateful to Florian who served as ILA Chair for more than ten years, during which time the association’s membership has grown substantially along with its program of work supporting our industry worldwide.”

Florian von Steinkeller said: “It has been an honour to help steer the lead and lead battery industry through a period of significant challenge. Today, the industry is increasingly recognised as part of the solution—setting the benchmark for battery recycling efficiency, enabling the recovery of critical metals, and contributing innovative pathways to decarbonisation. This progress is a testament to the outstanding collective effort of the ILA team, which I am confident will continue to thrive under Rob’s leadership.”
